Born Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan on December 27, 1965, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, he is the eldest son of esteemed screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife, Sushila Charak, who later adopted the name Salma Khan. Salman has two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan, and two sisters, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and an adopted sister, Arpita Khan.
Salman’s paternal lineage traces back to the Alakozai Pashtuns from Afghanistan who migrated to India in the mid-1800s. His maternal heritage includes Dogra Rajput roots from Jammu and Maratha ancestry from Maharashtra. Raised in a multicultural environment, Salman is fluent in Hindi, English, and Marathi.
He commenced his acting journey with a supporting role in “Biwi Ho To Aisi” (1988) and gained widespread recognition with his lead role in “Maine Pyar Kiya” (1989).
