Who is Ritu Varma?

Ritu Varma (born 10 March 1990 in Hyderabad, Telangana) is an acclaimed Indian actress and former engineer, primarily active in Telugu and Tamil cinema. She holds a B.Tech. in engineering from Malla Reddy Engineering College and began her career in short films—her breakout being Anukokunda, which won Best Female Actor at the 2012 48 Hour Film Project and featured at Cannes Short Film Corner 2013.

Varma entered feature films with a supporting role in Baadshah (2013) and later led in Prema Ishq Kaadhal (2013). After roles in Naa Rakumarudu (2014) and Yevade Subramanyam (2015), she became a household name with the blockbuster Pelli Choopulu (2016). Her performance earned her the Nandi Award for Best Actress and Filmfare Critics Award – Telugu.

Versatile in genre and language, Ritu starred as Madhu in Tamil romantic thriller Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (2020), and led in Telugu-Tamil bilinguals like Oke Oka Jeevitham (2022) and Mark Antony (2023). In 2024, she appeared in the Telugu black comedy thriller Swag alongside Sree Vishnu, earning praise for portraying dual roles .That same year, she debuted on OTT with the supernatural drama series Devika & Danny, streaming on JioCinema. With nuanced acting and script selection, Ritu continues to carve a niche.
