Who is Nina Dobrev?

Nina Dobrev (born Nikolina Kamenova Dobreva on January 9, 1989, in Sofia, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian‑Canadian actress widely recognized for her leading roles on television and in film . Raised in Toronto from age two, she trained in ballet, jazz, and gymnastics, later attending Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts and Ryerson University (majoring in sociology) before shifting her focus to acting at Armstrong Acting Studios.

Nina began her on-screen career with the teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation (2006–2009), playing Mia, before achieving fame as Elena Gilbert—and several vampire doppelgängers—in The Vampire Diaries (2009–2015) . She later starred in feature films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Let’s Be Cops and The Final Girls (2014), Flatliners (2017), Dog Days (2018), Love Hard (2021), and more recently The Out‑Laws (2023) and The Bricklayer (2024).

In addition to her acting career, Dobrev co‑owns the wine brand Fresh Vine Wine alongside Julianne Hough and champions charitable causes such as Project Pink, Hunger Bites, and the WE Movement. She volunteered in Kenya and served as host at several WE Day events. She continues to support environmental and youth empowerment initiatives.
