Who is Kangana Ranaut?

Kangana Amardeep Ranaut is one of the most influential and outspoken actresses in Indian cinema, known for her fearless attitude and powerful on-screen presence. Born on 23 March 1987 in Bhambla (now Surajpur), Himachal Pradesh, she hails from a Rajput family. Her father, Amardeep Ranaut, is a businessman, and her mother, Asha Ranaut, is a school teacher. She has two siblings—an elder sister, Rangoli Chandel, and a younger brother, Akshit Ranaut.

Kangana began her career in modeling and theater before making her Bollywood debut in 2006 with the film “Gangster”, which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She quickly gained recognition for her performances in intense and emotionally charged roles in films like Fashion (2008), Woh Lamhe (2006), and Life in a… Metro (2007).

Her breakthrough as a mainstream star came with the film “Queen” (2014), where she played a solo-traveling bride discovering herself, a role that won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. She further showcased her versatility in films such as Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and its sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), which solidified her standing in the industry.

Apart from acting, Kangana ventured into direction with “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” (2019), a historical drama in which she also starred. She has received four National Film Awards and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2020.

In 2024, Kangana officially entered politics, contesting and winning the Lok Sabha seat from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, as a BJP candidate.
